Depending on how many 80′s movies you’ve taken the time to watch, then you may or may not absolutely be in LOVE with the idea of what is called an Ax-Synth. I personally love it! It is ridiculous and awesome at the same time. The Roland Ax-Synth Shoulder Synth is designed to let you shred through riff after riff on a versatile keyboard rather than a guitar.

Dedicated Synthesis Engine

It used to be that to play an Ax Synth you had to first have a MIDI cable that allowed you to play through a separate synthesizer. The reason for this was because, previously, ax synths did NOT have their own library of sounds and effects to choose from. If you played on an Ax Synth then you were really just playing on a normal keyboard synth… You were just turning it on its side to play through what generally ended up being a less user friendly interface.

Well, no more. Roland released this Ax synth to be used by serious musicians, so its come fully loaded with a wide library of effects for you to choose from. I was astonished at the wide array of synth sounds available to you, and that’s not even getting into the ‘Super Natural’ sounds (These are your more typical instruments).

Express Yourself Through Performance

Designed to give a performing musician maximum expression, this synth is loaded with intuitive controls. For example:

• Mod Bar – Located on the ‘fret’, the mod bar is easy to reach and naturally augments your sound according the the specific way that you manipulate the mod bar. Want a heavy slur through a particularly twisted riff…Pull down on the mod bar just like you would on an electric guitar and be amazed at what you hear!
• Pitch Bend Ribbon Controller – Located directly above the mod bar, the Pitch bend ribbon allows you to further diversify your sound simply by running your finger up and down a ribbon (Very much inspired by the ‘finger slide’ for guitarists).
• After Effect – What if you could easily turn after effect on and off with the press of a button? Roland has included that exact feature with this new shoulder keytar. There’s a button located behind the mod bar (within easy reach of your natural thumb resting position) that allows you to seamlessly control your after effect on a note by note basis.
• D Beam Controller – Wave your hand in front of this controllor, located just below the mod bar and ribbon, and you’ll see that you have even more versatility when it comes to augmenting any sound this synth creates on the fly. This is probably the coolest feature of the Roland Ax-Synth.

Roland Ax-Synth Has USB Integration

Equipped with the most recent USB technology, the Roland AX-Synth doesn’t have to ONLY be a performance synth. Since it’s equipped with its own synth engine, there’s a solid chance you’ll want to record some of the sounds you create. Fortunately, this is extremely easy via the USB port that let’s you virtually plug-and-play your synth into your computer.
